Flash

Flash, a program developed by Macromedia®, allows web developers to create exciting animated and dynamic elements or complete sites, that are exponentially smaller than a comparative animated gif. This is because Flash uses shapes or "symbols" to create animation instead of colored pixels.

Flash can be effectively used on a variety of sites, from lawyers to night clubs. Most corporate sites that use Flash, use it either as an intro animation or for navigation. I have embeded small intro pieces of Flash within the home page in such a way that if the viewer has the Flash plugin they will see the intro, otherwise they will see a static image. This way you are not inconviencing the viewer with downloads of plug-ins. However, that is not usually a problem with Flash because it comes standard with almost every browser.

If you are looking for a cutting edge web site, Flash is the way to go. While it typically costs more than a conventional site, you get what you pay for. A Flash site is dynamic and interactive like no straight HTML site can be. It is not the best solution for every company, and I would love to discuss with you what your company needs.
